Product description

The Martell Single Estate Collection is an invitation to explore the Cognac region in all its fascinating diversity. It offers a selection of outstanding cognacs, each produced in limited quantities not only from a single cru, but by a single domain. This prestigious collection also highlights another dimension of Maison Martell’s celebrated savoir-faire: its unrivalled knowledge of the terroir and close relationships with winegrowers. This five-hectare vineyard in the village of Clam is situated at the heart of Petite Champagne. The chalky limestone terroir holds enough water for the vines all year round, which helps the grapes ripen properly and express their full aromatic potential. The Martell Cellar Master chose a rare eau-de-vie from 1978 to convey the character of this terroir. The 1978 vintage was a late one owing to a relatively cool, damp spring and early summer. A sunny, dry, late summer and autumn provided good conditions for the berries to ripen with, consequently, a healthy, high-quality grape harvest. The fruit was picked entirely by hand. Only five barrels (2,500 bottles) are released by the Martell celler Master and it prefectly represents the essence of L'Or de Jean Martell.

Product HistoryMartell, the oldest of the great Cognac houses, was founded by Jean Martell in 1715 at the height of French Art de Vivre, when gastronomy, taste and craftsmanship were celebrated and enjoyed with style. These became the three pillars of the House of Martell and remain intrinsic to the Martell vision today. Since 1715, Martell has produced, exported and marketed cognacs which are recognized worldwide for their outstanding quality and finesse, obtained through double distillation of exclusively clear wines and aging in fine-grainedoak barrels.
Tasting notesNose: Very distinctive leafy, fruit notes of blackcurrant, candied orange peel, light beeswaz and walnuts.
Taste: A powerful and well-structured attack, with prominent notes of blackcurrant leaf lending a slight bitterness while supporting a remarkably sustained finish.
