A combination of pot still and grain whiskeys, Jameson Black Barrel Irish Whiskey is matured in sherry and bourbon oak casks to unveil a complex palate of sherry nuttiness, vanilla, and creamy notes. Unlike other Jameson whiskeys, Black Barrel is aged in twice-charred casks, producing a blend of rich flavours ranging from fruity hints of apple and nectarine to the creamy tones of the grain whiskey to the piquant flare of the pot still. Jameson Irish Whiskey is crafted from a mash of malted and unmalted barley that is triple-distilled — just as it was by John Jameson himself centuries ago — through three separate copper-pot stills: a wash still, feint still and finally a spirit still. The mash itself is made using barley, maise and pure Irish water, further adding to the unique character of the whiskey. Taste notes of Jameson Black Barrel hint at nutty notes in abundance, alongside the smooth sweetness of spice and vanilla. It comes in a plain caramel colour, and the time spent maturing in the barrels leads to intensified aromas of butterscotch, fudge and creamy toffee. Product History | Product HistoryIrish winters can be harsh, and during our early years our unused barrels were left exposed to the elements in the courtyard of our distillery. When the time came to fill those barrels with whiskey, our coopers would invigorate them with a quick char. But what started as upkeep proved to have a nice effect on the whiskey that rested within, and Jameson Black Barrel is our nod to that discovery. These days our approach to whiskey making is far more refined than back then — we still use charred barrels, only nowadays it’s by choice rather than necessity. Turns out, whiskey that’s spent time in double charred barrels carries an untold richness and complexity. Every barrel contains secrets; the trick is coaxing them out. Matured in a combination of American oak, sherry casks, and double charred bourbon barrels, Jameson Black Barrel is a blend of ‘small batch’ grain and traditional Irish pot still whiskeys. Bursting with rich, complex flavours of fruit, caramel, toasted wood, warm spice, and vanilla sweetness, the double charring delivers an embellished finish to our triple distilled smoothness.
