Product description
Aberlour 12 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is one of the best value Speyside malts around. The double cask maturation process plus seasoned sherry butts and traditional oak influence the subtly balanced flavour of this rewardingly complex spirit. The 12 year old expression is a fine example of how the distinctively crisp citrus character of Aberlour's raw spirit is deftly softened by double cask maturation. Traditional oak and seasoned sherry butts are both used to great effect as the mellowed spirits within are combined to deliver a subtly balanced flavour. In 1879 James Fleming, a grain dealer, and son of a local tenant, founded the Aberlour Distillery. At the time, he counted a number of whisky distilleries as his customers, and after purchasing more barley than he was able to sell, he decided to pursue his long-held dream of opening his own distillery. Fleming found the water from the river to be exceptionally pure and soft from its journey over the granite in the mountains and utilised this to create an exceptionally smooth whisky. A daring modernist, he spared no expense building the distillery and personally supervised every detail of its design and construction, creating what would soon be hailed as ‘the perfect model distillery.’ Flavour notes of Aberlour 12 reveal classic Speyside with notable Sherry influences of sultanas, nutmeg, currant fruitcake, oak, and vanilla. On the nose, Aberlour 12 is soft and rounded with fruity notes of red apple in a golden amber with hints of ruby colour. The finish is warm, lingering, sweet, and spicy. Aberlour 12 is best served and savoured neat, on the rocks with ice. It can also be paired with a decadent dessert. A rich chocolate torte or a creamy chocolate ganache cake both come to mind.

Product History | Product HistoryThe Aberlour Distillery, estd 1879, lies in the village of aberlour in the heart of Speyside, the country’s premier whisky-making region which is renowned for producing whiskies of subtle depth and elegance. Aberlour is an historical place and its story stretches back over a thousand years. In the ancient past, a druid community lived in the valley. The druids valued oak trees and water and believed you could hear the water spirits talking to each other. Aberlour is a Gaelic word meaning ‘mouth of the chattering burn’ (stream). Water and an oak tree still feature today on the Aberlour label. |
